There is a lot of talk about 37signals new business book Rework. As a special treat, they recently released all 88 illustrations from Mike Rohde which are very nice and simple axioms on work. I’m thinking about getting a copy of the book for the iphone, so one day it will be the first book on my ipad shelf.
Paul Rand doesn't kid

In 1986, renowned graphic designer Paul Rand was hired to create a brand identity for Steve Jobs’s new company costing $100,000. Steve Jobs recalls a conversation they had:
“I asked him if he would come up with a few options, and he said, ‘No, I will solve your problem for you and you will pay me. You don’t have to use the solution. If you want options go talk to other people.’”
I cam across this story, and it made me laugh. There’s not to many designers that can be so confident in their work that they have the courage to say “You either take it or leave it.”

Sometimes you have to choose what kind of designer you will be.
• You want to be well-paid, please the client.
• You want to be award-winning, please yourself.
• You want to be great, please the audience.
